Agia Kiriaki Cathedral

The Cathedral of St Kiriaki, which is built in the centre of the village is part of the later history of Zemeno. Most of the religious rituals and holy masses around the year are held in this church.

The Cathedral of St Kiriaki was founded in 1958 and was inaugurated in 1967 by the Metropolitan bishop of Corinth Panteleimon. This church follows the architectural pattern of a basilica with three naves and an apse and has three lofts on each of its external sides. The church has a solemn byzantine architectural style. Its dimensions are 18x25m and it is 12 high. Its interior walls are fully decorated with hagiographies that have been created by Dimitris Sarakas. The cathedral is apparently built on the premises of an old temple of St Kiriaki. The latter, had been built between 1860-1870 on a rocky ground and it was quite small and of a simple architectural style. St Kiriaki is celebrated on  July 7th.

Nowadays, especially during summer and Easter holiday, the church’s courtyard is a lively meeting point for the young and old.
