Cultural Center of Zemeno

The elementary school of the village is situated in an area of a total 4.350 m2, it had been founded in 1885 and it had served as an actual school till 2000. Since 2000, the school has ceased functioning due to lack of new students. The local association, in an attempt to use this space to the advantage of the public, managed to transform the village’s old school into a Cultural Centre. The schoolhouse has been repaired so that today it can host a rich collection of cultural heritage items. More particularly, in one of the two halls of the Cultural Centre, one can see among other items, traditional clothing, weavings, everyday objects i.e. household items, traditional farm tools, religious heirlooms, decorative objects, old photographs, books and manuscripts of great historical significance and priceless value. The second hall hosts conferences and various screenings. Especially during summer, the young visitors of the village liven up the old schoolyard with their games.
