The building of the the Merchant Marine Academy has been built about 1880. Till 1925, it had been housing the Eastern Telegraph Co Ltd, an english company. It is a symmetrical, regular building, having its entrance doors on the center of each side, two wide facades made of tuff and some marble details. In the basement, some nautical exhibits are displayed (original photos of old sailboats, ship models etc. The building was partly destroyed by the WWII bombardments. It was repaired in 1947 by the company which succeeded the Eastern Telegraph.
The Merchant Marine Academy was housed in this building in 1960.
