This church was built in honor of the Apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary and it is considered a landmark not only for Xylokastro but for the whole region as well. Around the church, there is an imposing four-storey tower and an impressive steeple. This site is considered as a living museum, built by Fr Nikon, a hieromonk (a monk ordained to priesthood), who built it following the models of the basilicas of early Christianity. This church has been rebuilt during 1965-70 on a study designed by Anastassios Orlandos.
