Taxiarchis Michael Palarniotis Monastery

The Monastery of Taxiarchis Michael Palarniotis, or Panormitis, is located on the hillock of Agios Onoufrios, on the northern part of the island.

Its katholikon has a double vaulted roof and it is historiated with Byzantine murals of the 13th and 14th century.

In the courtyard of the Monastery, the geometric shapes of the pebbled mosaic constitute an authentic sample of the Dodecanese masterly art.

In marked contrast to its surrounding arid landscape, Panormitis is surrounded by trees. It offers a panoramic view of the whole island.
