Monastery of Panagia Kastriani lies on a hill nearby Kastriani village.
In 1700 some shepherds found there the icon of Virgin Mary buried in the ground. During that night they saw a light on the top of the hill and that light led them to the icon of Virgin Mary. However, according to the legend the Virgin Mary selected this special place as it was her wish.
Then in 1708 a country church was built but in 1910 a much bigger church was built over the smaller one for the hundreds of worshipers who rush there to honor the Virgin Mary not only on the 15th of August but also many other timers throughout the year.
In the older church the icon is still kept safely and is known to have worked miracles.
