Inspired by the traditional houses of Mykonos and the Mediterranean, the villa belonging to Ambassador Argyropoulos is a noteworthy example of the neoromantic modernism that was the prevailing style of urban private homes in Athens between 1930 and 1950.
This house has been built on a steep lot on Lycabettus Hill. A stairway from Fokylidou St leads to the garden at the ground floor level; there is a second entrance on Stratiotikou Syndesmou St. On the building’s ground floor are the living and dining rooms, with the bedrooms on the upper floors.
On the side facing Fokylidou St, the curved white walls of the staircase and the white retaining wall of the garden make the building appear closed.
The building is a synthesis of asymmetrical plastic volumes with Mediterranean island features, such as loggias and pergolas.
