Vrikolonisia is how the legend baptized the two rock islets that peep out of the northern side of Kaspakas port at Agios Ioannis beach.
The white Vrikolonisi is the larger and the black Vrikolonisi the smaller one. They were both close to the shore and became shelter for the cattle thieves, at a time when cattle stealing was a necessity and proof of bravery. There, they took refuge to enjoy their loot. Curious people passing by were not welcome and to make them leave the cattle thieves danced around fires, disguised and shouting loud.
According to the legend, fear, imagination and superstition of the villagers characterized the rock islets as retreats of vampires and so they called them Vrikolonisia (vampire islands).
Today, to protect the small port, the passage to the islets has been filled with debris and transformed into land. The place name still exists to tell the story.
