The road in Kokka ends in a narrow crossing which is known as The Katsonis Crossing. A marble plague is placed there made by the Kean Giorgos Hionatos, to prove how important role Kea played before the revolution of 1821.
Lampros Katsonis served the Russian Navy during the Russian- Turkish war (1787 – 1792) and had turned the port of Kea into a base of operation against the Turks.
In 1789 after a bloddy naval battle with a flotilla of the Turkish fleet, Katsonis was blocked by the Turks into the port of Agios Nikolaos. Surprisingly, he managed to escape during the night, transporting his ship from the bay to the sea by pulling it over the narrow isthmus of Kokka with the help of the residents of Kea.
