Temple of Apollo Aiglitis

The temple of Apollo Aiglitis is located at the Zoodohos Pigi Monastery. High sections of the temple as well as the enclosure walls that are still preserved to this day compose the enclosure of the Monastery.The enclosure is made of enormous rocks of the same size built in a row and is preserved to this day. Monastic cells as well as various other buildings of the Monastery are built on the enclosure.The temple is located on a spot of exquisite natural beauty. That is why on the very same location ancient Anafians created a complex of buildings dedicated to the worship and welcoming of the worshipers. Apollo Aiglitis statue is exhibited in the British Museum. Each year a fest called “Yakinthia” was held in honor of god Apollo.
