The cave of Panaghia tou Vrachou (Virgin of the Rock) is located a little way outside the village Kato Tarsos, on the huge rock-hill that dominates the setting of the village.
It is a two-storey cave, on the bottom floor of which the age-old hermitage-chapel, dedicated to the Virgin Mary ‘of the rock’, can be found. During past times the upper storey was used as a food storage facility and as a refuge for the area’s inhabitants during the Turkish occupation.
Both the levels of the cave have been fully explored by speleologists.
