Gavalas winery, in Megalochori, Santorini, is a family tradition. The family has been engaged in the vinification of the varieties grown in Santorini since the end of the 19th century. We hope that you will also become a devotee of the wines produced in our winery.
Katsano Dry White Wine
Gavalas’ Katsano is a dry white wine possessing green highlights and a nose of sweet aromas of flowers, honey and lemon blossom. On the palate it develops a rich taste with an exceptional balance, pleasant acidity and a long after taste.
Santorini Dry White Wine
Santorini wine is produced from the exquisite white native variety of Assyrtiko carefully selected from the traditional vineyard of the island. The result is the most distinctive, dry white wine, characterized by a bright yellow – whitecolour. On the nose delicate aromas of fruit - pear, lemon and pineapple - are present. On the palate, the wine is smooth, rich, fruity and full-bodied. It has a balanced acidity and along aftertaste.
Santorini Natural Ferment Dry White Wine
The result of the combination of the explosive indigenous variety Assyrtiko and the capacity of the natural yeasts are exhibited by this wine which is characterized by its fruity character and consists a worthy representative of the capabilities of Santorini’s products. Aromas of pear and white flowers, mouth full, greasy, with fresh acidity and pleasant metallic aftertaste.
Nykteri Dry White Wine
It is characterized by high alcohol (more than 14%), remaining sugars and long aging in oak barrels. Its colour is gold and its nose of pear and jasmine. It is full-bodied and it can be aged for at least 7-8 years.
Voudomato Dry Roze Wine
Wine «Voudomato» is characterized by fruity character, with aromas of fresh cherry and pomegranate. Soft in the mouth, metallic taste and refreshing acidity with delicate pleasant tannins that integrate the rich body and structure of the wine.
Xenoloo Dry Red Wine
A dry red wine, the result of a skillful blending of Mavrotragano, Voudomato and Athiri grape varieties. Gavalas’ Xenoloo is a wine characterized by its vivid personality, velvety taste and a rich nutty bouquet.
Vinsanto Naturally Sweet Wine from Sundried Grapes
Vinsanto is the mythical nectar of Santorini, produced from the native grape varieties of Assyrtiko, Athiri and Aidani.
Gavalas Winery, one of the oldes "canavas" of the island, lies in the traditional village of Megalochori.
The Gavalas Winery is a pilot wine unit operating in the PDO Santorini zone.
Now spans a 18 acre vineyard planted with Santorini PDO native varieties Assyrtiko, Athiri, Aidani and several rare local Katsano, Gaidouria, Mavrotragano, Voudomato.
The winery is equipped with modern machinery and a capacity of 150 tons.
Our wines are available in the Greek market and the U.S.
We also participate in EU programs for the promotion of Greek wines.
George Gavalas and his colleagues welcome summer visitors from 10 am until 8 pm at the traditional Canava, where you will have the oportunity to taste the wines. This is a challenge to wine lovers.
