The church of Panagia Portaitissa dominates the scene, high up on the Chora. It is located in Rodia village, on the foothills of the Venetian castle, and was established by Saint Anthimos in the middle of the 18th century.
Its wood-carved icon-stand is coated in leaves of gold.
According to tradition, the Virgin Mary’s icon printed itself onto the wood, and it is claimed that the icon is the same as the one found in the Monastery of the Iberians on Agio Oros.
