Six d.o.g.s is an all day/all night cultural
entertainment center at the heart of Athens’
Historic Center (Monastiraki), which organically
combines each one of its elements: a Gig Space, a
Project Space, a Bar, a Foyer, and a Garden.
The Foyer is a bright and relaxing space forget-together, which functions as a sub-space forits neighboring Gig Space, since it has a wideopening connecting the two, thus serving as anin-between space, as well as an individualBar/Café, depending on the occasion.
The Bar is an elongated dark space, which canbe found (spatially speaking, but conceptually aswell), at the other side of the plain whiteProject Space. All of the surfaces are completelyblack, with the only light source being a colorfulGreek-Taverna style lamp structure hanging fromthe ceiling, at the very center of the space. TheBar is home to some of the greatest independentlocal DJs on rotation.
The Project Space is a platform forpresentation of art projects of young emergingartists, who are in their majority Greek-based,and use mostly visual means in their work, butalways keeping a cross-art element in theirpractice. The space is a plain white elongatedcube, ideal to host versatile solo projects, aswell as groups shows, keeping an eye open for moreperformative acts, aiming at developing an opendialog with the visitors. Supplementary ofit’s exhibitions, the Project Space is anideal space for the presentation of small-scaleexperimental or acoustic live gigs andscreenings.
The Gig Space is probably the nucleus of thecomplex: a flexible and neutral studio space thatis configured for anything from live gigs, theatrical performances, parties, and screenings,to educational programs, workshops, seminars andlectures, both by young Greek artists, and actsfrom abroad, always emerging, always fresh. Withan emphasis on music, equally thrown upon live orDJ gigs, the space’s soundsystem is activealmost on year-round basis, offering an idealexperience of a solid and complete gig.
4 months of daily hard work, 15 tones of60-year old trash, hundreds of meters of cable, tens of kilos of Swedish ply wood, loads of riversand, a lot of feel good workers, and most of all, respect to the natural surroundings that was yetto be uncovered underneath the muddy layers, andthe back garden opened its doors to the generalpublic at the end of August, 2010. The Garden is open form 10 in the morning, daily, till late inthe night, offering comfy custom wooden seating, handmade hammocks, Free Wi-Fi, many plugs aroundthe trees (!), for laptops, shavers, etc., andmany more. The menu focuses on seasonal products, and local groceries, serving Ice Teas, a largevariety of Cocktails, home-made Deserts, DraughtBeers, Bagels, Soups, six HOT d.o.g.s (ofcourse!), a wide range of warm liquors, speciallyblended flavored-infused Vodkas (Vanilla, Fig,Ginger, etc.). The garden functions in analmost-silent bar way, handling over the weight ofthe attention to the people and the surroundingnatural space.
