Agios Lukas of Steiris lived as a monk in the monastic cells of the Diocese of Zemeno from 926 to 937 AD. It is said that by those times of early Christianity, the region developed a thriving religious activity around the illustrious diocesal temple of the Holy Trinity (Naos tis Agias Triadas), which was situated on the same ground where the church of the Transfiguration of our Lord Savior Jesus Christ (Metamorfosis tou Sotiros) can be found today. The location of the old temple is a designated archaeological site that awaits further archaeological research. Since the fire breakout of 1989, the habitants of the village made organized efforts to reform this historical site in order for them to put it forward as a significant cultural site of the byzantine history of Corinthia. In relation to this effort, in 2008 the construction of the chapel of Agios Lukas of Steiris had been completed. The restoration of the site includes earthworks, walling of the existing temple, works of road construction and planting of trees. The memory of St Luke of Steiris is celebrated on October 18th.
