The "Detis" possibly refers to the ships tied up in the bay, which is protected from the winds, or the habit Agios Ioannis had of tying malaria ("denei" in Greek), that is, treating malaria, which swept the island in the 18th century.
A large festival is held at the monastery on 29 August.
