The oldest castle in the history of Leros is the Castle of Lepidon that is spotted on the top of the hill in Xirokampos. The castle or acropolis is dated back in 2500 b.C.
The remains of eighteen miniature homes can be seen, where originally the guards of the area lived and later on served as a refuge for the inhabitants during the mid - Byzantine period.
The walls North East of the hill according to archaeologists are Cyclpian walls because the rocks are big blocks sculptured and each one of them weights approximately 500 kilos.
During the Early Christian period one big church was built in royal style.
In today's church's front - yard, which was built in the 4th century, there is a half - ruined mosaic.
Half - renovated, it is built on the ruins of an ancient acropolis at 70 meters high.
