The city of Ermoupoli has created an exceptional Museum of Industry, hosted in the historical first factories of the city. The Katsimantis factory, after being radically renovated, it had been inaugurated by the then president of the Republic of Greece, Konstantinos Stephanopoulos in May 12th 2002. The researchers of the National Hellenic Research Foundation have created a building complex which hosts permanent exhibitions, lecture halls and seasonal exhibitions. During summer, the museum hosts thematic workshops on science, literature and culture. The permanent exhibition includes rare specimens of the industrial heritage of Ermoupoli, original city plans and architectural designs, local 19th century artists' paintings and ship models.
The museum is open daily (except for Mondays) 10:00 - 14:00 and 18:00 - 21:00
