The Picture Gallery of Cyclades is housed in the old customs bond of Syros. The bond was built in 1834 by Erlacher, a Bavarian architect, and it is one of the first public buildings of the modern Greek state.
It is located along the coast, on cape Nisaki. It is about 122 m / 400 ft long and it has 14 storage spaces. In the front middle of the bond, there was a wide, covered aisle for the ships to load and unload the merchandise. During the inter-war period, the customs bond had ceased to operate and its large spaces had been arranged as to house the offices of various public services. In 1994, four storage areas on the southern side of the bond were rearranged for the needs of the Picture Gallery.
Today, the Gallery hosts various artistic events, expositions, theatrical performances and of course, the permanent exhibitions of the Gallery.
The gallery is open daily (except for Mondays) 10:30 - 14:00 and 19:00 - 20:00
