Kato Trikala

By car:

Via the Athens - Corinth National motorway, when you reach the 119th km take the exit towards Xylokastro.

Lower Trikala is at a distance of 24.5km. from Xylokastro and one can drive across it in approx. half an hour.

Lower Trikala is a green village with well-known springs and fertile soil.

• UNDER THE TURKISH RULE

During the Turkish occupation a number of intellectuals lived in the area of Lower Trikala, which was more financially developed than Upper Trikala, which was known as ‘the princely quarter’ (archondomachalas).

Tournavitis is referred to as the first nobleman in the area, and he was then followed by Andrikos Notaras, the brother of Agios Makarios.

Andrikos made a large tower and Makarios renovated the church of Agios Dimitrios, which was situated next to the tower.
