The City of Samothraki is located 6 km away from the port of Kamariotisa to the interior of the island. It was built in the 16th century AD, amphitheatrically at the foot of Mountain Saos, on the ruins of the medieval castle of Gatelouzi. It is a traditional village that preserves its quainty character. In the village’s square, called Efkas, the Ottoman soldiers killed all the men of the island and sent all the women in the slave markets of the East. In the church of the Dormition of Holy Mary, are kept the relics of the five martyrs of Samothrace. Worth visiting is the Folklore Museum that contains important artifacts of the cultural heritage of the island.
