On the other side of the town, about 500 m / 1.640 ft away from the central town, on an beautiful location, you can see another orthodox church, that of Agios Athanasios. Originally a chapel (built in 1641), it had been rebuilt as the current bigger church in 1946. The church is built near the location of Pighì (which means source), a beautiful gorge, full of plane trees. If you are lucky, you can admire the rare, natural, blooming saffron flowers among the old stone troughs were women used to wash their laundry.
