The Folk-Historical Museum of Sitia is housed in a two storey urban style building of the late 19th century architecture of Crete, boasting a wide assortment of authentic folk creations of the area.
Since its inception, it has been collecting, preserving and exhibiting all tangible and intangible assets of traditional and contemporary folk culture, deriving from the region of Sitia.
The Folklore Museum is divided into separated theme sections, where visitors can admire all kinds of local folk art such as, utelnsils and tools of a bygone era, ploumidia embroidey, xomblia ornamental pattern needlework, textiles and garments. It also portrays as faithfully as possible the old professions that have disappeared nowadays.
All exhibits are of both excepetional beauty and art, as they witness and reveal the cultural wealth of the Eastern Crete region and therefore, offer to visitors a pleasant acquaintance with the heritage of all aspects of life of its residents.
