Kato Vrysi is a water fountain of the well known Ottoman style with the arch, since in Paraspori the residents were exclusively Turkish.
It consists of one room - water tank of which the back part enters the shaped slope so it is not prominent. The height of the facade, which is built from limestone, reaches 1.65 m until the troughs, and its width is 1.94 m. The height and width of the arch’s pediment is 1.28 m. The slightly prominent arch is supported by pilasters with capitals, of a 0.58 m height. On the top part of the pediment there is a wicket 0.20 Χ 0,25 m and 0.22 m depth, inside of which there is a limestone with a representation of a hexagonal asteroid jewelry, surrounded by a hexagon and then in a circle.
Today’s spout is more recent, since below it one can see the position of the old ones. Below the spout there are two short troughs (0.25 m). The facade is crowned by a frame.
The fountain was stylishly renovated in 2010 with the initiative of the Cultural Association of Paraspori, with the expenses covered by the Municipality of Sitia.
The area of Kato Vrysi was drastically renovated in 2012 by the Cultural Association of Paraspori, by forming different levels, steps, stone benches and placing lights, wooden tables and chairs.
It is now a recreational area where the traditional festival of the 15th of August takes place.
