Matala beach is situated in the south coast
of Crete, about 70 km from Heraklion.
Matala is one of the most famous beaches of
Heraklion. It became famous in the 60’s, when hippies from all over the world
came to live in the carved caves.
Matala beach lies in Messara bay around
300m long with sand and crystal deep water.
Along the beach there are umbrellas, beach chairs, showers, lifeguard
& water sports. Around Matala, visitors can find restaurants, hotels, taverns
and camping. In June, the internationally renowned Matala Festival is organized
in Matala beach.
