On the outskirts of the village, near the national road, you can see the ruins of an old church and a tower shaped gate. These remnants are part of the medieval monastery of Zarakàs, which dates back to early 13th century.
The monastery was built by the monastic order of the Cistercians that came to Greece upon pope Innocent's III demand. Building material of the ancient temple of goddess Artemis was used for the construction.
This site was excavated by Anastassios Orlandos and Efstratios Stikas in 1928 and 1962 respectively.
